History of Cinco de Mayo
Cinco de Mayo, translated 5th of May, on which it is celebrated, is a Mexican holiday celebrating the defeat of the French Army in 1862. Cinco de Mayo celebrates Mexican heritage and pride.
The celebrations mostly combine traditional food, music, and dancing. In the United States it has taken on much the same status as other cultural holidays such as St. Patrick’s Day, Oktoberfest, and the Chinese New Year.
