Meet Me in St. Louis

Meet Me in St. Louis: Based on Sally Benson's Kensington Tales and the MGM motion picture Meet Me in St. Louis, this optimistic musical is set during the Louisiana Purchase Exposition World's Fair, 1904. The Smith family has gathered at Shrinker Swamp to witness the opening of the fair. Everyone is excited about the fair and the upcoming Christmas Eve ball. In preparation for these events, Ester tries to strike up a relationship with her neighbor John Truitt, whom she likes but has never actually spoken to. Eldest son Lon invites his friend Douglas Moore home. Rose, Ester's older sister, instantly takes a liking to Douglas even though she is expecting a proposal from Warren Sheffield. Tootie and Agnes, the youngest Smith girls, complicate all matters by pulling dangerous pranks and interfering with their sisters' relationships. When Mr. Alonzo Smith announces to his children and his wife, Anna, that their financial situation requires them to move to New York City, the family is devastated. Mr. Smith must figure out how to capture the magic of times to keep his family home in St. Louis. Book by Hugh Wheeler, music and lyrics by Hugh Martin and Ralph Blane. This iconic musical features now standards "Meet Me in St. Louis," "Skip to My Lou," "The Trolley Song," and "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas."
