Sweeney Todd, the Demon Barber of Fleet Street: With a book by Hugh Wheeler, Stephen Sondheim's 1979 musical thriller tells the dark tale of young Benjamin Barker, exiled by the lustful Judge Turpin in a ruse to entrap Barker's wife Lucy. Fifteen years later, Barker returns home to Victorian London under a new name, Sweeney Todd, along with a young sailor friend, Anthony Hope. Anthony falls in love with Judge Turpin's ward, Johanna while Sweeney takes up his old occupation as a barber, vowing revenge against the men who destroyed his wife and daughter. Based on the play of the same name by Christopher Bond.
