Wonderful Town

Wonderful Town: This musical adaptation of a collection of autobiographical short stories by Ruth McKenney won five Tony Awards when it debuted in 1953. It tells the story of two sisters who move from a rural town in Ohio to experience the big city life of NYC in the 1930s. Set primarily in Greenwich Village, these sister encounter a multitude of colorful characters as they each experience their new world from two very different perspectives. Book by Joseph Fields and Jerome Chodorov, lyrics by Betty Comden and Adolph Green, with music by Leonard Bernstein.
