Candida

Candida: By George Bernard Shaw. One of Shaw’s most popular plays and features one of the best female roles in literature. Candida is the wife of Rev. Morell, a famous clergyman in England. She is also the love interest of the poet, Eugene Marchbanks. Marchbanks feels it is degrading for Candida to live a life filled with petty house chores when he could offer her a life of excitement and love.  At first, Morell is amused by Marchbanks’ pursuit of Candida, but, as he realizes his own weaknesses, he begins to doubts his wife’s love for him. Candida must choose who she will love.
