Once Upon a Mattress: In this 1959 clever retelling of Hans Christian Andersen's fairy tale The Princess and the Pea, the devious Queen Aggravain and mute King Sextimus rule a fictional Medieval kingdom in which no one may marry until the queen finds a princess suitable for son, Prince Dauntless. When the brash and unrefined marshland princess Winifred (nicknamed Fred for her masculine strength and unladylike qualities) arrives, the entire court works to help her pas the Queen's ridiculous tests.
