The Mystery of Irma Vep: By Charles Ludlam. The play unfolds as Lord Edgar Hillcrest, an Egyptologist, moves his new wife, Lady Enid, to Mandacrest Manor. Lady Enid discovers there are secrets swirling around the death of Lord Edgar’s late wife, Irma Vep, whose portrait still hangs on the mantelpiece. Based on gothic melodramas, this parody is performed by two actors who play the numerous characters, offering plenty of built-in comedy with hurried quick changes and crisp dialogue.
