They’re creepy and they’re kooky, mysterious and spooky, they’re all together ooky, the Addams Family! The Addams Family musical opened on Broadway in April of 2010 after a tryout run in Chicago the year before. The original Broadway run ran for more than a year and a half and close on December 31st, 2011. With music and lyrics by Andrew Lippa and book by Marshall Brickman and Rick Elice, the musical is upon the characters created by Charles Addams in his single-panel comic strip. The musical is the first stage adaptation for the ghoulish and macabre American family, whose cartoons has been adapted countless times for television and film.

The musical follows America’s favorite ghastly family in a new original story. Princess of darkness, Wednesday Addams, is growing up and has fallen for a kind-hearted and smart young man from a respectable family. Wednesday confides in her father about her new beau and his “normal” family and begs him not to tell her mother. Gomez Addams is now forced to do something unimaginable to him. He must keep a secret from his beloved wife, Morticia. Everything will change for the Addams family when they have to a host a dinner for Wednesday’s boyfriend and his family.

The show begins as the Addams family is visiting a graveyard for an annual family reunion of relatives dead, alive, and undecided (“When You’re an Addams”) Before the ghostly Addams Ancestors return to their graves, Uncle Fester stops them to enlist their help. Fester explains to the Ancestors that Wednesday has invited her boyfriend, Lucas Beineke, and his parents, Mal and Alice, to dinner at the Addams’ residence. Later, while torturing Pugsley, on a rack, Wednesday admits to her brother that she’s been “Pulled” in a new direction by her newfound love. Meanwhile, Gomez and Morticia grow concerned about their daughter’s changing ways in “Where Did We Go Wrong.”

From the very start of this of this fun-filled musical romp through the Addams family’s crazy world, The Costumer will ensure that your audience will feel like they have been transported into the Addams’ residence with the help of our unique rental costumes! As the Addams family gather for their reunion, the Ancestors will look like a walking, hair-raising history of the Addams family tree. The Ancestors will all be draped in ghostly white and off-white worn period costumes to make it seem like they had been plucked right out of their respective time periods.

The rest of the living Addams family members will all resemble their famed and timeless appearances. Wednesday will be wearing her classic short black dress with matching spats on her feet, Pugsley in his black and white striped t-shirt, Fester in his long dark tunic, Gomez in vintage double-breasted pinstripe suit, and Morticia in her unforgettable sleek flowing black dress. The whole family will look like they came right out of their timeless TV show!

Jumping back into the story, the Beineke family is about to arrive for dinner. Lucas and Wednesday implore their respective families to please act as normal as possible so they can all enjoy a simple dinner without any ghastly surprises (“One Normal Night”). However, the moment that the Addams’ tall, gloomy, and ghoulish butler Lurch ushers the Beineke family into the mansion, tensions begin to mount. Mal wants to tear down the Addams’ beloved home, Alice won’t stop spouting happy poems, and Pugsley, Fester, and Grandmama cannot act normal. To make matters even more bizarre for the two families, Wednesday, who has dressed in black for eighteen years, appears in a bright yellow dress. Later, Lucas and Wednesday meet in private away from their families. The two lovers reveal that the reason they have brought their families together is to announce their intended marriage. That only marks the beginning of trouble for the couple and their whacky families.

When then “normal” Beineke’s are introduced, they will be a stark contrast between the spooky and kooky Addams family! The Costumer will be sure to accentuate this contrast with our rental costumes. Lucas will be dressed in casual a yet fashionable shirt and pants that a suit a young, respectable man. His parents will serve as a bright and ordinary opposites to Gomez and Morticia, for Mal will be clothed in a stylish three-piece suit and tie, and his wife Alice will be wearing a bright yellow dinner dress. The Beineke’s could not be more different then the Addams family!
