Diviners

Diviners: Jim Leonard, Jr.'s Great Depression era play takes place in the fictional town of Zion, Indiana. Teenage Buddy, who lost his mother as a young child when she drowned saving him, has an abnormal fear of water, even though he has the uncanny ability to locate important underground water sources. When lapsed and disillusioned preacher C. C. Showers takes work on Buddy's father's farm, he befriends the young diviner. When the town discovers that Showers was a preacher, they believe, despite Showers insistence, that he is a gift from God. Meanwhile, Showers works to convince Buddy that he must bathe in order to get rid of a bad case of ringworms. The tensions between Showers and the small town converge with Buddy's agreement to bathe, ending in tragedy.
