Disney’s Frozen Jr. is the licensed Broadway Junior stage adaptation of the beloved 2013 animated film. The original Broadway production featured music and lyrics by Kristen Andersen-Lopez and Robert Lopez, and book by Jennifer Lee. The Broadway production began its life onstage with a tryout run at the Buell Theatre in Denver, Colorado in August of 2017, then moved to the St. James Theatre on Broadway for previews in February 2018 before officially opening on March 22nd, 2018. The musical was nominated for Tony Awards for Best Musical, Best Book of Musical, and Best Original Score Written for Theatre. The musical has since been adapted for school ensembles through the Broadway Junior musical theatre program to fit the vocal ranges, dance abilities, attention spans, and cast sizes of scholastic ensembles.

The stage adaptation follows the same story as the animated film of love, acceptance and the bonds of sisterhood between Princess Elsa and Anna of Arendelle and expands on their relationship and journey together. Elsa has magical powers to create ice and freeze both objects and people, yet she struggles to control her powers and is fearful of them. Upon inheriting the throne of their kingdom from their deceased parents, Elsa flees out of fear of her powers and responsibility, consequently plunging her kingdom into eternal winter and nearly killing her sister, Anna. In order to save her sister and her kingdom, Elsa must learn to sacrifice and show true love.

The story begins as the royal family and townspeople of Arendelle celebrate the coming of summer (“Let the Sun Shine On”). As Young Elsa and Anna play together, Young Anna goads her sister into using her magical ice powers. However, their mother, Queen Iduna, reminds the two children that Elsa’s powers must remain a secret. Later that night, the sisters secretly use Elsa’s powers to create a living toy snowman named Olaf (“A Little Bit of You”). Excited by the possibilities of Elsa’s powers, the sisters become more adventurous as they are joined by the Snow Chorus. However, things go awry as Elsa accidentally strikes her sister with her powers. King Agnarr and Queen Iduna rush to bring Anna to the Hidden Folk to save their daughter, where Pabbie and Bulda, the mystical leaders of the Hidden Folk, successfully remove the ice from Anna’s head along with all memoires of her sister’s powers (“First Joik”).

From the very start of Elsa and Anna’s magical journey, The Costumer will ensure that your audience is immediately transported to the land of Arendelle with the help of our fabulous rental costumes! Our rental costumes for Frozen Jr. will completely transform each of your actors into their respective characters in the show! Young Elsa and Anna will each be clothed in youthful dresses and nightgowns for their icy evening antics. Their parents will embody that of Scandinavian royalty with King Agnarr wearing a sharp tunic collar military cut coat adorned with epaulets and a bold sash, and Queen Iduna in an elegant royal gown fit for a queen. Ensemble townspeople will also be appropriately costumed in colorful Nordic-themed attire that will create an eye-catching display onstage for ensemble music numbers!

Young Elsa becomes fearful of her powers and harming her sister, so she resolves to isolate herself from Anna until she can control her powers better. The King and Queen close the gates to the castle to protect their daughters, while Young Anna wonders why her sister won’t play with her anymore (“Do You Want to Build a Snowman?”). As the years go on, Middle Elsa still struggles to control her powers while Middle Anna still yearns for her sister’s love and affection. Desperate to find answers for their troubled daughter, the King and Queen set sail to find a solution for Elsa’s problems, but are tragically lost at sea.

The action soon jumps ahead to the day of Elsa’s coronation as Queen of Arendelle. Anna is ecstatic about the Castle Staff reopening the gates and bringing life back to the castle, while Elsa practices controlling her powers for the grand ceremony (“For the First Time in Forever”). Anna bumps into the handsome and charming Prince Hans, causing both of them to slam into Kristoff the ice harvester and his trusted reindeer Sven. Elsa is later crowned queen, and she contemplates the relationship she wishes she could salvage with her sister (“Dangerous to Dream”).

At the coronation ball, the sisters are able to rekindle some of their old bond as they finally talk and laugh together at the expense of the pompous Duke of Weselton. Anna later runs into Hans again, and the two are immediately enamored with each other and quickly fall in love (“Love is an Open Door”). The pair decide to marry and ask Elsa for her blessing, but the newly coronated queen refuses. Tensions rise between the sisters as their newly rekindled relationship appears to crumble, causing Elsa to lose control of her powers and shoot ice into the ballroom. Elsa flees from the castle and into the wilderness, not realizing that her suppressed powers have caused her kingdom to be engulfed in an eternal winter. It is up to Anna to find her sister and bring summer back to their beloved Arendelle.

As Elsa and Anna’s story continues to unfold, The Costumer will continue to provide you and your cast quality rental costumes for each of ensemble members! During the Coronation Ball, both Elsa and Anna will dazzle audiences in their elaborate and iconic coronation dresses that will make each character look like they jumped right out of the animated film!
